Sport Pilot Training at Highlands Aero
Experience the joy of flying with Highlands Aero's Sport Pilot Certificate Program, designed for those seeking a faster and more affordable path to the skies. Whether you’re flying for recreation or exploring a stepping stone into advanced certifications, the Sport Pilot Certificate offers the perfect entry point.
What Is a Sport Pilot Certificate?
The Sport Pilot Certificate allows you to fly light-sport aircraft (LSA) in a variety of settings with fewer training requirements compared to a private pilot certificate. It’s ideal for recreational pilots who want to enjoy the freedom of flight with fewer restrictions.
Privileges of a Sport Pilot Certificate:
Fly during daylight hours under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). Night flight allowed with additional training.
Operate light-sport aircraft (LSA) with a maximum of 2 seats.
Fly solo or carry one passenger.
Share flight expenses with your passenger (fuel, rental, etc.).
Limitations:
No flights at night or in reduced visibility conditions. Night flight allowed with additional training.
Cannot operate in Class A airspace and only in certain controlled airspaces with proper endorsements.
Cannot fly for compensation or hire.
Why Choose the Sport Pilot Path?
Faster Certification: Requires only 20 hours of total flight training (half of what’s needed for a private pilot certificate).
Lower Costs: Save on both training and medical expenses (a valid driver’s license suffices as your medical clearance).
Fun and Accessible: Focus on recreational flying and enjoy the thrill of light-sport aircraft.
Training Structure
Our structured program combines flight training and ground instruction to prepare you for the FAA knowledge test and practical exam:
Total Training Hours: Minimum of 20 hours, including:
15 hours of dual instruction with a certified flight instructor.
5 hours of solo flight.
Key Areas of Focus:
Basic flight maneuvers.
Takeoffs, landings, and ground handling.
